Life at the interface of the energy sector and law can appear to be confused and confusing even for the most seasoned operators and investors. The same can be said at the interface of EU and  UK or international law. Not so for Ana Stanic, the founding partner at E&A Law Limited, the leading boutique law firm for energy, arbitration and EU law. E&A Law is regarded as the UK and EU’s premier specialist law firm providing advice and acumen to leading UK and international clients on  energy , EU and public international law matters of the highest importance.

Ana quite literally grew up with the growth in energy and EU law as it has expanded dramatically and globally over the last twenty years. As public and political interest in the legal issues affecting investors, banks, operators, regulators and governments  in the energy sector  has grown so has a plethora of robust multi-jurisdictional regulatory structures that have tried to maintain a balance between the commercial and public interest pressures within the industry.

Ana is an expert in all of the different aspects of law and strategy that affect the various interested parties in energy and related industries.  Ana’s practice is not simply an adjunct of other legal work that can preoccupy a multi-disciplinary law practice. The deep understanding of the legal, financial and strategic issues faced by those involved in the energy industry has led to accolades for Ana such as:

"E&A Law Limited’s Ana Stanic is a sought-out adviser to governments and energy companies on PIL issues."  Legal 500, 2015."

"Ana Stanic of E&A Law Limited offers clients a deep understanding of EU regulatory frameworks surrounding complex oil and gas projects." Chambers & Partners, 2015.
“We see no other lawyer in the market with a practice comparable to that of Ana Stanic, founder of E&A Law. The independent structure of the firm has been highly successful with clients as it facilitates high levels of flexibility and specialisation around client needs. Ana has become the lawyer of choice to states and global energy sector players,” Legal 500, 2014

"She is very thorough, very dedicated, she puts in lots of effort and she has a wide range of knowledge, so we hold her in very high esteem. She is very responsible with her fees, too,” client comment to IFLR 1000, 2014

“Encyclopaedic knowledge” of EU energy regulations. Chambers & Partners, 2014.

For international investors, operators and governments, Ana has a true understanding of the globalisation of the energy industry and the requirements of ensuring a smooth legal and regulatory process to transactions. Moreover, Ana realises that cross-border disputes can develop in the industry and her academic and practical understanding of dispute resolution and arbitration is recognised both by her appointment as an honoury lecturer in international arbitration at one of the UK’s leading Universities and that she regularly acts as counsel in investment treaty and commercial arbitrations, including at the European Court of Justice.

Ana has worked on high-level strategic acquisitions, maritime border disputes, concession agreements for large energy infrastructure projects, host government agreements for the building of pipelines, state to state matters, EU energy, environmental and state-aid issues as well as banking and finance concerns.  Moreover, this work is truly international as Ana works for clients across the world: the UK, EU, Central and Eastern Europe, the Former Soviet Union and more.  Ana is often the sole lawyer called in by governments to advise them on the legal and strategic issues of the day and has been asked to train government agencies on energy related legal matters.

Ana was born in Belgrade and has like Madeleine Albright , the former US Secretary of State who was also born  there, an international and cosmopolitan outlook became part of her character at an early age! Ana was educated at a number of leading global universities, including Cambridge, where she graduated with first-class honours. She has lived in Australia, Italy, Slovenia and the UK. One of the great advantages that Ana brings to her clients is her past experience working in government and at a central bank. This allows Ana’s clients to have the experience of someone who has sat on both sides of the negotiating table!
The accolades above that the Ana understands “clients’ needs  is very prescient in this regard. So, if you would like to meet a lawyer who really does understand a client’s needs (!), please contact Ana on the phone or via email.
